ANSWER
Sizing depends on the objective of the boat owner. Only Mitsubishi has three different models of gyros. Each model will provide excellent roll reduction for a boat depending on the vessels displacement, GM, etc. Every vessel has it’s own characteristics. | Q2 | Who can install an ARG system on my boat? |
ANSWER Any competent boat yard, but the structural foundation should be approved by a Marine Engineer to ensure that it will safely transfer the torque to the vessels hull. Consult your dealer for more details. |
| Q3 | What maintenance needs to be done on my gyro? |
ANSWER This is an area where the Mitsubishi ARG differs greatly from the competition. Daily maintenance is not required. We do recommend that once a year the system be inspected for accumulated dirt or maybe some oil seepage. Do not use water to clean the ARG. |
| Q4 | Which part of the boat is the best location to install ARG? |
ANSWER
Because the ARG is nearly maintenance free, there is no need to make convenience a priority. Following are recommendations to help you locate the ideal place to install your ARG.
1: Take into consideration the ships center of gravity and balance 2: Ventilation is required if locating in a confined space. 3: Locate the ARG in a soundproof area like an engine room. 4: Make sure the area selected is strong enough to transfer the generated torque to the vessel. The primary structural beams are a good choice. 5: The ARG does not have to be mounted on the centerline to be effective. For example, an ARG will be equally effective sitting across from a generator |
| Q5 | Does ARG have safety system? |
ANSWER The ARG Driver monitors the spinning flywheel at all times and if something occurs that is not normal operation, the system will shut down and issue an error code. Since the ARG was built on the premise of simplicity, there are no other systems to monitor or fail. |
| Q6 | How much noise does ARG make |
ANSWER In the testing labs at the Mitsubishi Factory, we measured the unloaded ARG250T spinning gyro from a distance of one meter and found it to emit 75 – 80 DB’s of sound. This is a lot less than a generator in a sound shield. In fact, you won’t hear the gyro over the generator. The situation in our lab is a lot like a gyro in a docked boat. Locating a gyro in close proximity to living accommodations will require sound proofing. |
| Q7 | How was the gyro developed into a device that creates so much pleasure on a boat? |
ANSWER Historically gyros were used around the turn of the century on Ocean Liners. It wasn’t until back in the late 1990’s Mitsubishi, the originators of the ARG applied technology they developed for the international space station in a solid, dependable way to the Marine Industry. Mitsubishi is proud to be the originators of a new breed of Marine Stabilizers for the next century. |
| Q8 | How does the ARG line of stabilizers compare to the ‘finned’ hydraulic systems? |
ANSWER In order to operate effectively at ‘zero speed’ hydraulic systems use extra large fins that protrude on the sides of the hull. In order to make these fins effective, there is a large hydraulic pump that speeds up and slows down upon demand creating a random load variance much like a roller coaster that often requires you to install a much larger generator. With the ARG there are no fins, or hydraulic system which means a much quieter ride. Everything (gyro and driver) is contained inside the vessel which makes docking and maneuvering easier. The current demand is even and steady, in fact your generator will thank you for choosing the ARG. You can even run your ARG at the dock while plugged into shore power. The passive ‘gyro moment’ principle of the ARG is simple and effective. |
